@dananj57 RT @Eduware_Inc Congrats to last week’s #iPadChat $20 itunes giveaway winner @dananj57 http://www.eduware.com/ipadchat. Thanks!

@Eduware_Inc Let’s get started with today’s #iPadchat topic: ‘iPad Classroom Teaching Strategies’

@nathan_stevens Strategies depend on whether you have an ipad or ipad2 #ipadchat

@Eduware_Inc Submit questions and answers to @Eduware_inc, in a q1 q2, etc. a1, a2, etc. format. #iPadChat

@Eduware_Inc Here we go with the first question! #iPadChat

@Eduware_Inc Q1: How do you approach iPad classroom teaching strategies? #iPadchat

@Eduware_Inc @nathan_stevens Great point! The iPad 2 offers extended functionality with the camera? Are there any other differences? #ipadchat

@nathan_stevens We try to focus on collaborative apps such as share board and other mindmapping apps #ipadchat

@nathan_stevens Projection to me is the main focus, having a student create something and take it to the front to share is vital #ipadchat

@Eduware_Inc @nathan_stevens I know you’ve got a site with a list of iPad apps, what is the URL again? #ipadchat

@svsdtech #ipadchat @nathan_stevens I definitely think allowing students to collaborate using the iPad is critical.

@Eduware_Inc @nathan_stevens For ref, Share Board: http://bit.ly/rpd0jB #ipadchat

@nathan_stevens @Eduware_Inc http://bit.ly/diDiUu #ipadchat

@nathan_stevens We did have trouble with share board when several boards when going on #ipadchat

@AlexMaslak @nathan_stevens that’s really important. What do you teach? #ipadchat

@Eduware_Inc @nathan_stevens how many board at a time were you using? #ipadchat

@nathan_stevens We are looking at switching to groupbaord or padboard #ipadchat

@nathan_stevens @AlexMaslak I am working with an Ed psych professor and a couple of counties in implementation #ipadchat

@nathan_stevens @Eduware_Inc usually between 5 -7 groups with a board #ipadchat

@Eduware_Inc Q2: Are there any teaching strategies geared towards classrooms with only 1 or 2 iPads? #iPadChat

@nathan_stevens With the original ipad, look at what type of file the app saves as that can be loaded into an projectable app #ipadchat

@Eduware_Inc Ref GroupBoard: http://bit.ly/eV2yiq and PadBoard: http://bit.ly/dtvf0i #iPadchat

@nathan_stevens @AlexMaslak There are not many high school apps in the app store as elem and mid. Look for app that allow your students to create #ipadchat

@AlexMaslak Q2: I think the same strategies apply at any classroom with limited resources: develop jobs for a team product for example #ipadchat

@nathan_stevens Groupboard server software is really affordable #ipadchat

@dananj57 “@Eduware_Inc: A2 I would think it would be unlike having a few computers in the room. Independent work. #iPadChat

@AlexMaslak @nathan_stevens “not many high school apps in the app store as elem and mid” story of my life lol #ipadchat

@nathan_stevens If you school shares an ipad cart, look for ways for students to save files ie dropbox, box.net, or webdav #ipadchat

@AlexMaslak @dananj57 I agree. Teach sharing 🙂 #ipadchat

@Eduware_Inc Yes! @nathan_stevens: If you school shares an ipad cart, look for ways for students to save files ie dropbox, box.net, or webdav #ipadchat

@nathan_stevens @AlexMaslak but on a high school level, students should be able take knowledge and turn it into object #ipadchat

@Eduware_Inc Groupboard server princing structure: http://bit.ly/oeTL3P #ipadchat

@nathan_stevens Groupboard developer is a really good guy, and respond promptly #ipadchat

@Eduware_Inc @nathan_stevens Good to know, that’s really important! #ipadchat

@nathan_stevens Share board people never responded to emails #ipadchat

@AlexMaslak @nathan_stevens Yes! That is the def of great teaching/facilitation #ipadchat

@mrtalmadge #ipadchat has any one had success with #Splastop Whiteboard?

@dananj57 “@Eduware_Inc: Until cloud is launched what is the best way to share files or save files. Dropbox doesn’t work w/iwork #ipadchat

@nathan_stevens @mrtalmadge Splashtop is a pretty good app for remote desktop #ipadchat

@nathan_stevens @dananj57 I prefer Quickoffice for documents #ipadchat

@Eduware_Inc @dananj57 Unfortuately, the iWork iOS apps are pretty flimsy for sharing. I recommend e-mailing files to your dropbox account. #ipadchat

@Eduware_Inc @dananj57 Alternatively, use Quickoffice #ipadchat

@Eduware_Inc More info on using e-mail to send files to dropbox: http://bit.ly/lQDrBd #iPadChat

@nathan_stevens I am still holding off on the iCloud due to setting up ipads off of one account #ipadchat

@Eduware_Inc Q3: Are there any iPad apps geared towards lesson planning? #iPadchat

@nathan_stevens MyLessonPlan or Planbook touch #ipadchat

@dananj57 #ipadchat I heard mixed reviews on quick office and they already got iWork for them I think.

@Eduware_Inc My LessonPlan: http://bit.ly/pJqEMI and Planbook: http://bit.ly/gTb20B #iPadChat

@Ilotimo NEW POST: iPad Resources for Teachers http://bit.ly/qnli3l in Education Technology t&p #edtech #ipaded #ipadchat #edchat #cpchat

@Eduware_Inc @dananj57 Yeah, it’s not quite as robust as iwork, but it usually wins people over because of integration with gdocs & dropbox #ipadchat

@dananj57 “@Eduware_Inc: I guess until cloud we give them to students in Sept. Timing off. #ipadchat

@Eduware_Inc @dananj57 Check out this work around for using dropbox with iwork: http://bit.ly/lQDrBd #ipadchat

@nathan_stevens Also with the OS 5 coming out in fall, ipads will already be distributed and won’t be able to update #ipadchat

@betavt #ipadchat School; Fusion changed some of their stuff, no more flash needed. iPads now work fully!

@Eduware_Inc @betavt This raises a good question, how many schools will allow third party browsers? #ipadchat

@dananj57 @Eduware_Inc #ipadchat I guess if each kid has their own iTunes acct. They have to have their own email 🙂

@nathan_stevens We setup the apps the need at the beginning of our account, then students can add from there. #ipadchat

@Eduware_Inc @nathan_stevens Are there any restrictions or monitoring of which apps students are allowed to add? #ipadchat

@nathan_stevens For most schools, Are there current firewalls enough to protect students? #ipadchat

@betavt #ipadchat anyone have any thoughts on how to deploy an entire grade level?

@nathan_stevens @Eduware_Inc We let them go with apps, and recorded what apps they download at the end of the semester #ipadchat

@dananj57 “@nathan_stevens:I think w/Casper we can push updates. Will know more next week we are installing it. Also with the OS 5 #ipadchat

@nathan_stevens @betavt Are you talking about a cart or ind student #ipadchat

@Eduware_Inc @nathan_stevens Do you look over the apps downloaded list and ever resort to corrective actions? #ipadchat

@nathan_stevens Casper push codes to devices, but does not install apps . Not sure on pushing updates. #ipadchat

@vickyloras RT @Ilotimo: NEW POST: iPad Resources for Teachers http://bit.ly/qnli3l in Education Technology t&p #edtech #ipaded #ipadchat #edchat #c

@nathan_stevens We are three of the apps that where downloaded, to our standard install #ipadchat

@Eduware_Inc To last week’s giveaway winner @dananj57 Did you have a chance to try out any new #edapps for the ipad? #iPadchat

@Eduware_Inc Q5: Regarding classroom content, is the iPad ready to fully replace textbooks? #iPadchat

@nathan_stevens @Eduware_Inc Most textbook apps take up most of the storage on ipad, need to make them smaller and more interactive #ipadchat

@AlexMaslak @naverobert RT @Ilotimo NEW POST: iPad Resources for Teachers http://bit.ly/qnli3l in Education Technology t&p #sschat #edchat #ipadchat

@Eduware_Inc @nathan_stevens Are there any content solutions which stream content on the fly? #ipadchat

@nathan_stevens I am waiting to see the new moodle app #ipadchat

@dananj57 “@Eduware_Inc: #edapps #iPadchat” I have downloaded a few and send ideas to staff to help them I am trying out picture editing apps

@Eduware_Inc @nathan_stevens Any word on a release date for the moodle app? #ipadchat

@nathan_stevens I am looking at developing textbook SDK to create textbooks, looking for Comp Sci folks to help. #ipadchat

@Eduware_Inc @dananj57 That’s fantastic. Any early recommendations of apps to use or avoid? #edapps #iPadchat

@nathan_stevens Pretty soon, but you have the running moodle 2.1 #ipadchat

@Eduware_Inc @nathan_stevens This is a fantastic idea, how will you deal with licensing? Will publishes use your SDK? #ipadchat

@nathan_stevens @Eduware_Inc Free to everyone, will offer training at cost of grd stud. #ipadchat

@Eduware_Inc @nathan_stevens Fantastic. Will the SDK adapt to all grade levels? #ipadchat

@JudithELS RT @Ilotimo: NEW POST: iPad Resources for Teachers http://bit.ly/qnli3l in Education Technology t&p #edtech #elemchat #ipadchat #edchat

@nathan_stevens I want to get away from publishers, students create better content to teach from than publishers #ipadchat

@dananj57 “@nathan_stevens: @dananj57 Image editing app http://t.co/OS0spLq really like filterstorm #ipadchat” I like snap seed and adobe ps express

@nathan_stevens @dananj57 PS express is good, too #ipadchat

@dananj57 RT @nathan_stevens: I want to get away from publishers, students create better content to teach from than publishers #ipadchat

@mrtalmadge #ipadchat have you all checked out the app #tinytower? Could be a fun way to teach supply/demand and cause/effect to elementary age…

@nathan_stevens I will be open to anyone to create any type of book you want #ipadchat

@nathan_stevens The goal is to have textbook that looks like a vook #ipadchat

@Eduware_Inc Adobe Photoshop Express: http://bit.ly/a92k4E and SnapSeed: http://bit.ly/kT1pXd #iPadChat

@Eduware_Inc @nathan_stevens Will SDK allow for media integration (movies, sound files, etc.)? #ipadchat

@Eduware_Inc @mrtalmadge TinyTower is a great app for supply/demand #ipadchat #tinytower

@nathan_stevens I would like it, too #ipadchat

@dananj57 @nathan_stevens#ipadchat” biggest problem is just getting stuff to iPad want to try not to hook up computer to get stuff to play with apps

@Eduware_Inc @mrtalmadge Tiny Tower (Free): http://bit.ly/k4id4Q #ipadchat #tinytower

@nathan_stevens If the apps requires usb sync, it is worthless #ipadchat

@Eduware_Inc @dananj57 Hopefully this will get easier with iOS5, but it will be a while before we know. #ipadchat

@Eduware_Inc Agreed RT @nathan_stevens: If the apps requires usb sync, it is worthless #ipadchat

@nathan_stevens Several apps have wifi syncing, that it is easy to push other that require usb to the side #ipadchat

@dananj57 “@Eduware_Inc: I am sure it will get easier but right now can’t give up my laptop even using iPad for this chat kind of hard #ipadchat
